Elden Ring Tarnished Edition: Everything We Know So Far
As someone who adores Elden Ring, and who is currently replaying the brilliant Shadow of the Erdtree DLC a year on from its original release, I am incredibly excited for one of my favorite games to be headed to the Switch 2 somewhen later this year.
To the untrained eye, the reveal of Elden Ring Tarnished Edition seemed like a standard issue port of a great game and its (in my humble opinion) even greater DLC expansion. Well, the untrained eye couldn’t be more wrong!
The port comes with a host of new, albeit smaller, additions to the game. Some of these additions keen viewers will have caught when watching the trailer, and some of them haven’t been shown off yet, at least not to the wider public, anyway.
So whether you’re a veteran Tarnished, or whether the Switch 2 version of the game will be your first foray into the Lands Between, let’s take a look at the new additions coming to Elden Ring Tarnished Edition.
Torrent Customization
While the Tarnished have long been able to rock a wealth of interesting armor sets and cool outfits, everyone’s favorite companion, Torrent, was left on the sidelines without a single customizable aspect of his character. Well fear not, because Tarnished Edition fixes that very issue, introducing new armor sets for Torrent as well!
While it is unclear what options this may include, FromSoftware have revealed one image showcasing Torrent with bright white fur and what appears to be Carian-inspired cloth designs hanging from his saddle, so it would be safe to assume that fur colors and saddle options are going to be available to us.

New Armor Sets
Worry not, fellow Tarnished, as Torrent isn’t the only one getting a glow up with the release of the Tarnished Edition! Multiple new armour sets are going to be added as part of the expanded release, and most notably fans have been responding particularly well to a certain armour set FromSoftware has chosen to show off on their ‘X’ account…
It seems the highly revered armor set of Lucatiel of Mirrah, from Dark Souls 2, is making its way to the Lands Between. This is in similar fashion to the legacy outfits available for the Nightfarers in Elden Ring Nightreign, so could this possibly mean other popular armor sets could make an appearance? I’d love a Siegmeyer of Catarina armor set, if I could pick any myself.

New Weapons And Ashes Of War
It’s one thing to look good, but in the Lands Between, you’re not going to make it very far without a great weapon at your disposal, and there’s plenty to be added with the Tarnished Edition! While none have been officially named as of yet, there have been glimpses among the trailer and what has been shown by FromSoftware on social media. I’m hoping for some more light greatswords myself.
Ashes of War, the skills that weapons in Elden Ring come equipped with, are also seeing new additions, likely as the skills for the new weapons added, but I wonder if any will be discoverable as beetles across the map, like some were in the base game and DLC? It gets me wondering about how the weapons will be discovered as well, will they be simple inventory additions, or will there be a prerequisite for using them. Gets you thinking…

New Starting Classes
If Elden Ring Tarnished Edition is going to be your first time experiencing the game then I have some good, and bad, news… You have two brand new character classes to choose from! How is that bad, I hear you say? Well they’re all pretty enticing already so now choosing one is going to be even harder!
On a serious note, the first of two brand new classes specializes in an overall quality stat spread. The Knight/Knightess of Ides seems to be designed as a good opening option for newcomers, allowing for players to experiment a little more in the early game, dipping their toes in and out of different stat pools to find a playstyle that’s right for them, which is something that other classes struggle with.
The second of the two classes, Heavy Armour Warrior, seems to be a pure strength build, with no real stat benefits in any other department. It appears that the Greatsword is their starting weapon, which makes them an easy first place contender for the class I’ll go with when picking up the Tarnished Edition later this year – strength builds for the win, am I right?

Release Date And Availability
There is no defined date of release for Elden Ring Tarnished Edition at the time of writing, but the trailer confirmed a release in 2025, so we can expect to be headed to the Lands Between again on Switch 2 very soon.
If you don’t want to buy a brand new copy of the game to experience these new additions then don’t worry, the content additions will be made available as a paid DLC pack on Steam, PlayStation and Xbox, so Tarnished across all platforms won’t miss out on anything.
