Could A New Nintendo System Already Be On The Way?
Rumors are running rampant as Nintendo fans find themselves desperately speculating over the existence of a new system revision for the Nintendo Switch 2. Sounds familiar, doesn’t it?
As of the January 16, a year has passed since the first official look of the ever-anticipated Nintendo Switch 2, launching to extreme fanfare on June 5, 2025, after years and years of speculation.
The console’s launch was the most successful the video game market had ever seen, amassing a gargantuan 5.82 million units sold during its first month on the market, according to The Sixth Axis, and recently surpassing the Wii U’s lifetime sales figures of 13.56 million.
During the recent holiday season, the Switch 2 lost its legs a little and struggled to shift units, so with rumors of a revision already floating around, is it possible that a Switch 2 “lite” or even an OLED model could help put some pep back in the console’s step?
A Bluesky user, dootsky.re, made a post claiming to have discovered something interesting, after finding a new unused model code on Nintendo’s Account Portal; the code discovered was “OSM”, with some on social media speculating that the code may indicate a new revision of the Switch 2 hardware.
However, one user by the name of Polmo responded to the post claiming that the code may in fact be an abbreviation of “Oshaberi Super Mario”, perhaps derived from the “oshaberi fuwara” or Talking Flower. Nintendo does have a physical toy in production of the Super Mario Bros. Wonder Talking Flower, so there may be some truth in this observation.

While all of this is still just speculative, a revision to the Switch 2 in the same vein as the Switch Lite could help to get more people into the Switch 2 ecosystem, and a more affordable price point among the rising costs, particularly in the gaming sector, would likely be very appealing to anyone still hesitant to jump on the bandwagon.
What do you think? Could a Switch 2 revision be on the way? Would you like a lite or a pro system? Let us know in the comments below!
