Minecraft Fans on Nintendo Switch Are Left Hanging After Graphics Update Skips The System
Following on from Minecraft LIVE 2025, the Chase the Skies and Vibrant Visuals updates for the game released to widespread fanfare on June 17, but Minecraft fans playing on Switch 2 have been left high and dry.
As the Chase the Skies update was rolled out, the Vibrant Visuals were nowhere to be found on the Nintendo Switch edition of the game, even receiving a separate trailer for the update omitting any mention of the new graphics modes.
This is nothing new, as Minecraft has historically been dealt a bad hand on Nintendo platforms, between an incredibly delayed release on the Wii U, a paired back and poorly performing New Nintendo 3DS port, and a wealth of framerate and rendering issues on the original Switch. As more and more updates were released for the game, the Switch simply struggled to keep up with everything the game had to offer.
It’s not without its perks too, of course, namely the Super Mario mashup pack offered exclusively with purchase of the game on a Nintendo system, and despite the ups and downs, Minecraft has seen just as much success on Nintendo systems as anywhere else. As of March 16, 2025, the game has sold a whopping 6.19 million copies on the Switch alone.
With the release of the Switch 2, it’s safe to assume that the game will continue to sell well on the Switch family of systems, regularly finding itself among the eShop charts month by month. With the Switch 2 being a much more capable system than its predecessor, however, fans are going wild with speculation over a potential Switch 2 edition of the beloved title.
One user, 2088AJ on Reddit, described the reason they want to see the new update hit the system, saying:
“I want to start a new world with vibrant visuals turned on and I want to do it with the convenience the Switch 2 gives me like ease of access and ease of use.
When I’m done playing on the desk and couch with a flat screen TV, I go to my bed in handheld mode. Just thinking about it makes me comfy.”
With the Switch’s improved framerates, loading times and DLSS capabilities, it seems the console would be more than capable of running Minecraft with all of the fancy new bells and whistles introduced with the latest update. Mojang themselves have been actively investigating how Vibrant Visuals performs across a wide variety of devices, and claimed they aim to “either fully or partially” bring the new visuals to “as many devices as possible.”
