Legendary Super Mario Land Composer Would Love To Make A New Full Game Soundtrack
Iconic composer and former Creatures Inc. president Hirokazu Tanaka expressed his willingness to make a full game soundtrack if asked.
During an interview with VGC at BitSummit, Tanaka was asked if he’d ever consider making another video game soundtrack, something he hasn’t done in over two decades. In the end, he does, and even when asked if he’d prefer doing individual songs as opposed to full soundtracks, he’d still rather keep going with full soundtracks.
“Actually, if somebody came up to me and said ‘hey, do you want to make music for a game?’ I’d say ‘yeah, sure, sounds like fun’.”
Currently, he’s working with 17-Bit, making songs for Awaysis.
Tanaka is the mastermind behind — outside of Super Mario Land — Metroid, Kid Icarus, Balloon Fight, Dr Mario, and more. At a point, he began making music for the Pokemon anime, but things went sour and he was told he couldn’t do that. He later left Nintendo and joined Creatures where he climbed the ladder and became its president. He’s since left that position behind but remains a Creative Fellow at Creatures.
