Donkey Kong Bananza Developer Basically Confirmed, Same Team As Super Mario Odyssey
The same team behind Super Mario Odyssey has been pegged as the developer behind Donkey Kong Bananza. This does call into question when a new 3D Mario game will come out.
Nintendo was hesitant to spill the beans, as they always are, about who’s behind DK’s latest adventure, but according to VGC, it seems all-but-confirmed that Nintendo EPD Tokyo is behind the game. During a media preview of the Switch 2, it was confirmed that Donkey Kong Bananza‘s dev is “based in Tokyo.”
Now, it could be that outsourcing happened with a third-party developer contracted to make it, and the team behind the new DK game just so happens to be in Tokyo, but it does seem a bit unlikely. It’s a high-profile game that not only garnered a ton of attention from fans, but was part of a Treehouse presentation and their very own Direct last month, it’s fair to assume this is under the eyes of a first-party developer.
It’s also possible it’s the same company but a different team within Nintendo EDP Tokyo. What we do know, though, is if this is what the team has been working on, it’s unclear when the new 3D Mario will release.
