DK Movie Leaked By US Copyright Office
Nintendo’s first foray into the big screen with The Super Mario Bros. Movie was always going to lead to further cinematic ventures. With a sequel to the Mario movie scheduled for release on April 3, 2026, and a live action Zelda movie also in the works, it seems Nintendo has a bright future ahead for their cinematic efforts.
Fans of Donkey Kong should be getting excited too, as according to a filing from the US Copyright Office, reported on by Nintendo Everything, Universal Pictures and Nintendo Studios LLC have registered an “Untitled Donkey Kong Project; Motion Picture.”
The timing of these copyright filings is rather telling, as with Donkey Kong Bananza coming out on July 17, it seems Nintendo are on a bit of a Donkey Kong push at the moment (which makes it all the more confusing why he was left on the sidelines for costumes in Mario Kart World, but that’s a topic for another day).
While a potential DK movie likely won’t release for another few years yet, it would make perfect sense for an official announcement to happen soon, around the release of his latest game.
