Switch Yo's GOTY 2017

This year. This freaking year. I wouldn't be surprised if 2017 goes down as one of the most historic years in gaming. Not only did we get a ton of fantastic games, we also got a brand new hybrid gaming-system-thing from Nintendo. Though, that isn't to say that 2017 wasn't without its faults. Lootboxes and microtransactions were at an all time high, with the Battlefront 2 loot box controversy taking centrestage. Thankfully though, quality games vastly outweighed the rotten apples.

Here are our picks of the top 5 Nintendo Switch games of 2017.

5. Arms

Arms is a unique 3D arena fighting game. This is probably one of the best fighting games we've played, and it's most definitely the most interesting and unique.

4. Splatoon 2

Look, if you're interested in playing as a little girl or boy inkling in a semi competitive online shooter, then you can't really go wrong with Splatoon 2. If you've played the first Splatoon on the Wii U, you basically know exactly what Splatoon 2 has to offer, as unfortunately there isn't really anything overly new here. It's still very addictive though, and a joy to play!
Rating: Switch Go!

3. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

Blue shells. Nuff said.
Rating: Switch Go!

2. Super Mario Odyssey

When choosing our Game of the Year, Super Mario Odyssey was definitely a heavy contender. If you're looking for a fun and engaging 3D Mario game with excellent mechanics and platforming, Odyssey is a no-brainer. Buy this, right now.
Rating: Switch Go!

GOTY. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Yet, even with Super Mario Odyssey being a Game of the Year contender, it isn't quite up to the level of awesomeness as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. This game is pretty much the poster child of how to do an open world game. You've got exploration, platforming, a great story, some solid combat mechanics, fantastic puzzle solving, and pretty much everything else you expect from a Zelda game.
Rating: Switch Go!

Really, there's no contest. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the WIld gets our vote for Game of the Year.
