Nintendo Will Set Different Prices Between Physical And Digital
Nintendo is the first platform that has announced that they will have differing price points between physical and digital starting in May.
They didn’t go into too much detail, but we can only suspect that this means physical games will follow same trend as Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, which is Nintendo’s first game releasing under this new model. While digitally it will cost $59.99, for a physical copy, it’ll run you $69.99.
Nintendo offers the understandable statement that your experience isn’t changed if you are buying a physical or digital copy. Really, this change reflects the extra cost that it takes to distribute games physically.
“Nintendo games offer the same experiences whether in packaged or digital format, and this change simply reflects the different costs associated with producing and distributing each format and offers players more choice in how they can buy and play Nintendo games.”
Nintendo also points out that it’s on their partners to set their own prices. Frankly, this shouldn’t cause much backlash, but we already can tell this will ruffle some feathers.
